This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.
Occupational titles may include:
- Tiler
- Wall and Floor tiler.
State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
Course Duration: 52 weeks
The following are the Admission requirements of ISMT:
- Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of course commencement.
- Prospective students may be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and/or a pre-enrolment interview.
- Must have completed Australian Year 11 or equivalent level of schooling or a Certificate III or higher qualification with an Australian institution.
- Must demonstrate English level of IELTS 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent, such as:
- IBT 60
- PTE 50
- CAE 169
- OET B
- General English Advanced or equivalent
- MOI Certificate
- Duolingo 95
- MET
- LANGUAGECERT Academic
- CELPIP General
- Certificate IV or higher qualification with an Australian institution.
- Must have basic digital literacy, including the ability to confidently use the internet and common software applications for learning purposes, completing assignments, and engaging with course content.
- Must be able to participate in training within a simulated workplace environment, including performing manual handling tasks.

Students will need to successfully complete all units in this course to receive CPC31320 – Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling. Learners who partially complete the qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units they are deemed competent.
